Commercial Spaces
I like to create spaces that are unconventional by adopting elements that are not usually associated with commercial spaces. To create a unique look and feel, I feel it is necessary to bend the rules. I enjoy combining elements that are not usually placed together to create a surprising look - I have used outdoor furniture in indoor spaces, home decorations and furnishing in an office, security iron grills used as decorative screens in a retail store etc.
I like to create spaces with ‘soul’ instead of cold, sterile environments. Each space should clearly represent the brand and project a strong character to help the business stand out amid the clutter of various competitors.
The aim is to create unexpected spaces that offer a memorable experience. I always bear in mind that the spaces I create need to be homely and comfortable, not just good-looking. A commercial space does not have to be just a place to work, eat or shop. It can be welcoming and cozy enough for people to want to spend more time there and re-visit.
Residential Spaces
I’m best at creating homely spaces that do not feel overly-designed. The space should feel like it’s been arranged by the owner to suit his or her personal needs. And decorative objects should feel like the owner has curated the objects over the years.
I believe it’s also important that the space say something about the owner of the space; that they amplify the personality of the occupant. Rather than just creating a space that looks nice, we should create one that really represent the homeowner’s character.
Anything that feels unnatural to the space—including too many built-in cabinets, display units and wall panels—often just make a space look and feel like a hotel room or a furniture exhibit. I prefer architectural details that are not too intrusive. I believe that each detail should have a natural place in the space. So I truly believe that ‘less is more’ and try not to overdo the architectural details in my designs.
Furniture and Decorations
Once the construction is over, my feeling is that it isn’t enough to have a space that is well renovated. I believe that it is the finishing touches that will make the place unique to each space. That’s why I insist on sourcing the furniture and decorations for my clients. I seek out furniture and decorations from all possible places, including shops in Shanghai and around China, furniture shows, as well as online. I love furniture shopping and spend a lot of my time exploring the streets of Shanghai. In the process, I’ve discovered many small shops that most people are not aware of. These places are usually treasure troves, but one needs to have a good eye and the patience to rummage through everything to find the real gems.
Due to my love of travelling, I don’t limit myself to shopping within China. Having lived and worked in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, London and USA, as well as having travelled extensively around the world, I know where to find whatever works best for your space, from understated to exotic and everything in between. In fact, I’ve spent so much time in shops, I sometimes feel sad that I can’t buy all the lovely pieces I find (my house can only accommodate so much stuff!) That’s why it’s such a great feeling that now I can help other people purchase these wonderful things for their own spaces.

我喜欢运用一些通常不会和商业联系在一起的元素，营造出在一个视觉上和感觉上都独一无二的空间，打破常规在我看来非常有效。我也喜欢把一些不太会同时出现的东西组合在一起，创造出令人惊喜的视觉感受——比如我曾经把户外家具放到室内；把居家装饰品和家具装进办公室；或者在店铺中用防盗铁格栅做成装饰屏风等等。
我喜欢创造出有灵魂的空间，而不是冷冰冰毫无生气的环境。每个空间都应该清晰地表达出品牌和项目鲜明的性格，从而在激烈的竞争中脱颖而出。
我希望我创造的空间能够出其不意，带来令人难忘的体验。我一直努力让这些空间更舒适，并且有家的感觉，而不仅仅是好看。商业场所不止是一个工作、就餐或者购物的地方，它可以带给人们愉快和惬意，让他们希望多待上片刻或者再次光顾。
居家天地
我最拿手的就是营造家的感觉。我创造出的空间看上去就像是主人根据自己的喜好所布置，所有的装饰品都是主人珍爱的收藏，而不会流露出过度设计的痕迹。
我认为一个空间应该体现出主人的个性。只是好看不难，但更重要的是让一个空间和它的主人真正融合在一起。
任何与整个空间格格不入的东西，比如过多的橱柜、陈列品和墙面镶板等，通常只会让房间看起来像酒店客房或者家具展厅。这就是为什么我不喜欢改动空间原本的建筑结构，这样会显得很突兀。我相信“简单就是美”，每个细节都与整体格局相辅相成，而我也一直努力保持设计的简洁性，不在建筑结构上大动干戈。
家具和装饰
每当一项工程临近结束时，我总是会觉得哪里还差了一点。我相信正是这最后的点睛之笔可以让一个地方变得与众不同，这也是为什么我坚持亲自为客户挑选家具和装饰品的原因。我遍寻所有可能的地方，上海、中国各地、家具展，网络也不放过。我爱搜购家具，不惜时间走遍上海的大街小巷，发现了许多鲜为人知的小店。这些地方往往藏着宝藏，好东西总是需要有慧眼和耐心才能找到，不是吗。
我喜欢旅行，所以我的采购行动也并不只局限在中国。我曾经在马来西亚，新加坡、泰国、伦敦和美国生活和工作，也游历了世界各地的许多地方。我很清楚在哪里可以找到和你的屋子最匹配的东西，不论是低调华丽、异域风情抑或是介于其中。但实际上，我花费那么多时间逛店，却时常感到难过，因为我无法将我发现的每一件美好可爱的物品都买回家（我住的地方空间实在有限！）。所以现在能够替别人买下这些布置房间的好东西，我感觉很棒。
